About EE Broadband

When you hear of EE, you most likely think of their Mobile and SIM-only deals. However, EE also offers an excellent and extensive broadband service.

EE began life as a joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile in 2010, which BT acquired in January 2016. Since then, EE's network has grown to have the largest coverage in the UK and has been voted the UK's best network nine years in a row.

But what can you expect from EE's broadband service? EE offers all the significant types of broadband, from your ADSL service to Full Fibre Broadband. Customers can also choose a mobile broadband service which leverages EE's network to deliver a 4G/5G service to homes that struggle to achieve a reliable or speedy internet service through traditional methods.

What Home Broadband Deals Does EE Offer?

Standard Broadband (ADSL) - This is your standard broadband service. When comparing this to fibre broadband, you can expect a less reliable connection and much slower speeds. EE customers on an ADSL deal experience average speeds of 10Mbps therefore, we only recommend this service if you don't have many connected devices and your internet usage is limited to browsing online.

Fibre Broadband - You can expect faster speeds and a more stable connection when you choose a fibre broadband service. It's an excellent choice for households that regularly stream movies and TV shows or have a lot of devices connected simultaneously. EE offers two fibre packages, EE Fibre Broadband which has average speeds of 36Mbps and EE Fibre Plus Broadband which has average speeds of 67Mbps.

Ultrafast Broadband (Full Fibre) - Full Fibre Broadband will meet the demands of almost every household. It is the newest type of broadband from many UK broadband providers, including EE. It provides the fastest speeds (up to 1Gbps) and the most reliable connection compared to ADSL and FTTC broadband. Unfortunately, it is not widely available across the UK, so there's a high probability that it won't be available in your area.

What is EE Mobile Broadband?

Mobile broadband is an internet connection delivered through a mobile network. By leveraging their award-winning 4G and 5G network, EE offers the most comprehensive mobile broadband service in the UK.

We highly recommend a mobile broadband service if you have limited broadband options available at home, resulting in a slow and unreliable connection. As a bonus, there is no need for an engineer to set up your mobile broadband connection. Plug your router in, and you're ready to go.

Below we've listed the routers and options EE offer on their mobile broadband service.

5GEE Router - Assuming you are in an EE 5G-enabled area, you can get EE's 5G mobile broadband starting from £45 per month. This service offers average speeds of 146Mbps, which is perfect for gaming, streaming and downloading in Ultra HD or 4K. The router allows you to connect up to 64 WiFi-enabled devices, and you can choose between two data plans, 500GB or the unlimited data plan.

5GEE WiFi - The 5GEE WiFi from EE is built for 5G access while you're on the go. You can use it in your home, although we wouldn't recommend it as a permanent solution because the 5GEE WiFi device is battery-operated. Plans start from £19 per month, and you can choose from 5GB, 25GB, 125GB and unlimited data plans. The 5GEE WiFi device allows you to connect up to 64 devices and has a WiFi range of up to 30 meters.

4GEE Home Router - Similar to the 5GEE Router, the 4GEE Home Router leverages EE's 4G network to deliver reliable mobile broadband service. Plans start from £35 per month, and you can choose from 100GB and 300GB data plans in 1-month or 18-month contract options. Average speeds are 30Mbps on the 100GB data plan and 40Mbps on the 300GB data plan.

4GEE WiFi Mini - Similar to the 5GEE WiFi, the 4GEE WiFi device is purpose-built to deliver a 4G internet connection whilst on the go. The device can support up to 64 connected devices and offers speeds of up to 40Mbps in some places. You can choose between the 5GB, 25GB, 125GB or unlimited data plans.

What are the Benefits of Choosing EE Broadband?

There are plenty of reasons to choose to get your broadband with EE. We've highlighted our favourite reasons below.

  • If you're already a mobile customer, you get exclusive discounts and benefits on your broadband, such as 10% off your EE broadband bill every month, up to 20GB of extra mobile data each month, and Xbox Games Pass worth up to £120 on selected packages.

  • Switching is easy, and if you receive an early cancellation fee from your old broadband provider EE will give you up to a £50 bill credit.

  • EE's call centres are based in the UK and Ireland and are available 7 days a week.

  • As an optional add-on to any of EE's home broadband deals, you can choose EE's Smart WiFi. With Smart WiFi, you will receive a smart router and smart WiFi discs. The router and the discs work together to create a mesh WiFi network which will help you achieve faster speeds and a more robust signal. All you have to do is place the discs in areas where your WiFi doesn't reach very well. You'll also receive a 4GEE WiFi Mini device and 2GB of data per month. If there's ever a fault with your home broadband, your data will be boosted to 250GB.
