How to get Cheap Broadband?

Here at Savely, we typically consider a cheap broadband deal of around £18 per month. A cheap fibre broadband deal starts at approximately £22 per month. So how do you go about grabbing a cheap broadband deal?

Consider the Extras and Addons.

We see a lot of broadband providers offer extra incentives on their deals. Consider a streaming service subscription or a voucher as an example. If these extras are valuable, consider them in your overall deal. Due to the addons, it could work out cheaper for you to pay a bit more monthly than a package with lower monthly costs but no addons.

Bundle your Mobile, TV and Broadband.

Sometimes you could save money by combining your Mobile, TV and Broadband into one bundle with a single provider. Always make sure to check out the bundled deals from different providers. It's a step most people forget. But it could save you a lot of money.

The Contract is Important.

Understanding the whole agreement of a broadband deal is essential. We often see providers offer introductory prices; for example, your monthly price increases after six months. So the total amount you pay over your contract could be more than a deal with a slightly higher but consistent monthly price.

When your contract with your broadband provider is over, we regularly see service providers increase the monthly cost of the customer’s broadband. They do this to entice you into signing a new contract with them. Our top tip to avoid this is to be aware of when your contract ends and start shopping around a month before your contract ends. Don't forget to speak with your service provider to see if they could offer you a cheaper deal by signing up for a new contract.

The final thing to watch out for is in-contract price rises. Around April, many broadband providers do a CPI (Consumer Price Index) price increase each year. Your monthly bill could increase by up to 10%, and you won't be able to cancel your contract without paying an early termination fee. Unfortunately, most major providers do this, so if you want to avoid this, it could significantly limit your switching options.

Time of the Year.

The time of year can have a substantial impact on price. We have seen some of the best offers later in the year. Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the January Sales are excellent times to hunt for your new broadband. But these aren't the only times you can snag a great deal.

Another great time to bag a top deal would be around April and May. At this time, most service providers are ending their financial year. If they've not met their targets, they'll often put some irresistible broadband deals into the market to increase their end-of-year numbers.

These aren't the only times you can get a great deal, but we've mentioned them because they're consistent trends year after year.

Which Broadband Provider is the Cheapest?

No single broadband provider is the cheapest. We see new deals every week. However, some providers focus more on a 'value broadband' service. We've listed our favourites below.

NOW Broadband

Owned by Sky, NOW has positioned itself as a no-frills 'value broadband' provider. You will find broadband, phone and tv deals consistently at low prices. As a bonus, they even offer one-month rolling contracts! Read more on NowBroadband here.

Plusnet

Plusnet has always been a 'value broadband' brand. In January 2007, BT Group acquired Plusnet. However, this hasn't changed Plusnet's focus on providing excellent value broadband. If you're looking for a no-frills cheap broadband option, Plusnet is a perfect choice. Read more on Plusnet here.

TalkTalk

TalkTalk is another option if you're looking for cheap broadband and phone service. They're one of the UK's major broadband providers, and just like its 'value broadband' rivals, they heavily focus on providing an excellent, reliable service at a low monthly cost. Read more on TalkTalk here.
