What are Broadband and Home Phone Deals?

Broadband and home phone deals are services that bundle your phone line (sometimes called a landline) and broadband together. All the major broadband providers on Savely offer phone and broadband services, such as Sky, TalkTalk, BT, Plusnet, and Vodafone.

Having your landline and broadband with the same provider is generally more cost-effective and easier to manage.

At Savely, we have a wide range of Broadband and Home Phone Deals for you that are updated daily. You can compare broadband and home phone deals further down the page.

Do I need a phone line with my broadband?

No, but you'll find that most homes in the UK have a broadband and phone deal even if they don't use their landline. Most broadband providers today still rely on technologies that use a copper line to deliver internet to your home. These technologies need to issue you an active phone line for your broadband to work.

So how do you get broadband without a phone line? Your home will need access to Full Fibre Broadband or Virgin Media's cable broadband. Unfortunately, the coverage for these two types of broadband is relatively low compared to the other types of broadband. As of July 2022, Full Fibre Broadband coverage in the UK is 33%, and Virgins cable broadband is 52%. However, new, fast-growing Full Fibre networks are expanding rapidly across the UK, so if you're looking for a broadband service without a phone line, you might not have to wait that long. Why not find out more on Full Fibre deals.

How do I get the best Broadband and Home Phone deal?

The best broadband and phone deal will be the deal that meets your needs. There are plenty of things to consider when choosing which deal is best for you.

Contract

Most broadband providers offer contract lengths of 12, 18 and 24 months. Some providers like NOW Broadband offer 1-month rolling contracts; however, these typically have setup costs and higher monthly costs.

It's important to consider what contract length is right for you, as cancelling your broadband during your contract will result in an early termination fee. These fees can add up to hundreds of pounds and rarely justify the cost of leaving.

Speed

What speeds you can get depends on what types of broadband are available in your area.

  • ADSL (10Mbps) - Only recommended for households with light internet usage.

  • Fibre Broadband (35Mbps) - Recommended for homes with 1 - 2 users.

  • Superfast Fibre Broadband (65Mbps) - Recommended for households with multiple connected devices and heavier internet usage.

  • Ultrafast Fibre Broadband (100Mbps +) - Suitable for almost any home and requirements.

Not all of these services or speeds will be available to every household. Understanding what is available to you and your speed requirements will help you pick a broadband deal better suited to your needs.

Monthly Cost

This is the amount you'll be paying monthly for your Broadband and Phone service that doesn't include additional costs such as installation charges or any landline calls outside your allowance.

If you have a strict monthly budget in mind, this can quickly help to reduce the number of options available to you. It's important to remember that you will most likely have to pay a higher monthly cost if you were to choose a Fibre Broadband Deal or Full Fibre Broadband Deal than an ADSL deal.

It is important to also consider what the equivalent monthly cost is to you. Many providers offer upfront cash or voucher incentives for taking a Broadband and Phone Line deal from them and as a result may have a more attractive equivalent monthly cost than what the monthly cost alone shows. An example of this would be a £25 a month broadband deal over an 18 month contract with a £75 Amazon Voucher. The equivalent monthly cost of this deal would be £20.83 which could be better than other deals that advertise a cheaper price.

Setup Fee

Setup fees are usually the result of you needing a new line to be installed. If you already have an active line at your property, then the setup fee should be minimal or nothing.

As we have previously mentioned, if you are looking for a 1-month rolling contract, these typically come with setup fees, so bear this in mind.

Call Plans

Are you a regular user of your landline? If so, it's essential to consider providers who offer call plans suitable to your needs. Available call plans from most providers listed on Savely are listed below.

  • Unlimited Calls

  • Free Evening and Weekend Calls

  • International Call Plans

Even if you have a call plan, ensure you've read the provider's terms and conditions to know when your free minutes are applicable.
